The Ratchaprasong bomb blast, which killed 20 people and injured more than 100 others, is a challenge to the nation’s security, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon told armed forces commanders on Wednesday.
Gen Prawit, who is also defence minister, was addressing armed forces chiefs while chairing a meeting of the Defence Council, according to defence spokesman Kongcheep Trantawanich.
Maj Gen Kongcheep said Gen Prawit also said some groups of Thai people had made the situation worse by fabricating news, which caused further confusion.
He ordered the armed forces to follow news reports, both within the country and abroad, with discretion and analyse them.
The country was in an important transition period and faced problems from both inside and abroad, and Thai people must come together to overcome these challenges, Gen Prawit was quoted as saying.
The defence minister also ordered the armed forces to take steps to guard against attacks by cyber hackers to safeguard their important data.
He instructed them to assign soldiers to promote understanding with people opposing state projects, and explain to them that delays would mean lost opportunities.
