11 Thai protesters acknowledge charges relating to September 19-20 rallies

Eleven core members of and protesters from the anti-establishment movement reported to Bangkok’s Chanasongkhram police today, to acknowledge charges against related to the protests at Thammasat University and Sanam Luang on September 19th and 20th.

Among those facing fresh charges are Atthaphol Buapat, alias Khru Yai, Chai-amorn Kaewvibulpant alias “Ammy The Bottom Blues”, Chinnawat Chankrachang and Ms. Suwanna Tarnlak.

Mr. Atthaphol later told the media that none of them are concerned about the charges filed against them and that they will carry on with their protests until their demands are met.

The charges include violations of the state of emergency and traffic laws, illegal use of loudspeakers and violations of the Archaeological Sites Act.

Sasinan Thamnitthinan, a lawyer of the Thailand Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR), said that 17 protest leaders and protesters are wanted by police, but only eleven of them showed up today to acknowledge the charges.

Meanwhile, protesters are gathering at the Government Complex on Chaeng Wattana this evening.
