A total of 380 drink drivers took part in a vow-taking ceremony held at Bangpu police station on Sunday(Apr 15), with a promise that they will not ride a motorcycle or drive a car under the influence of alcohol.
The event was chaired by Pol Gen Veerachai Songmetta, the deputy national police chief, and attended by several Samut Prakan police, including Pol Maj-Gen Thamnoon Traitippayapong, the provincial police commander.
Held under the programme, titled No Drink Driving Again, the event started with monks giving all the 380 drink drivers caught during Songkran festival a sermon about living a life free from carelessness.
Then all of them were each given a cup of sacred water from a bowl bathed with a knife, a spear and bullets and were made to take a vow that they would never ride a bike or drive a car after they drank alcohol or they would die in three days if they break the vow.
After the ceremony, then were all taken to Samut Prakan district court to face charges of drink driving.
