A 70-year-old man from Laokwan district of Kanchanaburi province was narrowly saved from suicide attempt by hanging from a tree in front of Government House Monday morning.
The man identified as Put Intra was seen climbing over a Pudding pine tree which is in front the Public Service Centre and is opposite the Government House.
He tried to put a loin cloth around his neck in a suicide attempt as government authorities were about to send a hundred of local fishermen in buses to the Ministry of Agriculture to lodge their complaints.
Authorities then rushed to him with a ladder to support his body and tried to bring him down.
However as authorities tried to reach him with the ladder, the loin cloth tied to his neck was loosened and he fell on the ground.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment and pronounced safe.
He received several bruises on the left leg but was safe.
Initial questioning of the man showed he was under stress after his land placed as collateral for a car loan was seized and was about to be auctioned off.
He then came to Government House to lodge complaint and ask for help from the prime minister.
