8 BOYS RESCUED FROM THAI CAVE IN GOOD CONDITION – HEALTH OFFICIALS

CHIANG RAI, Thailand, July 10 (NNN-Bernama)The first eight boys rescued from a cave are now at a hospital and in good condition physically and mentally, Thai health officials said here Tuesday.

Public Health Ministry Deputy Director-General Jesada Chokdumrongsuk said the first four boys rescued, aged between 12 and 16 were currently able to eat normal food.

Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying two of them possibly had lung infection but all eight were generally "healthy and smiling".

The families of the first four boys were being kept at a distance because of fears of infection. The boys were initially only allowed to eat a rice-based porridge, authorities said.

Jesada said one of the other four boys sent to the hospital on Monday had irregular heart beat, but added every one was in high spirits and happy to get out (of the cave).

The boys will miss the FIFA World Cup as it could be at least seven days before they can be released from hospital.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has invited the Thai boys' football team trapped in the cave to the World Cup final, as messages of support poured in from top players.

The 12 boys and their coach went missing in a cave in northern Thailand since June 23.

Divers tried to train them with basic diving skills as part of a mission to extract them from the flooded cave after they were found on July 2.

In a final mission that resumed Tuesday, efforts are underway to rescue the remaining four boys and their coach who are still trapped in the cave.--NNN-BERNAMA
