A woman and her three-year-old son die in Taopoon shophouse fire

A woman and her three-year-old son were burned to death and two others were injured in a fire at a shophouse building on Bangkok-Nonthaburi road in Bang Sue district, Bangkok, early Sunday morning (Feb 4).

The two victims were later identified by police as Mrs Natthanan Ngarmsuriyarote, 36 and her son Thitisak.

Taopoon police said that the fire took place at about 1.20 am on the second floor of a 4-storey shophouse which is the office of an accountancy firm FieldCore Service Solutions International.

The fire then quickly spread to the third and fourth floors where there were four people inside the shophouse at the time, including the two victims.

Rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu foundation managed to rescue the two injured victims and to rush them to the closest hospital, but they failed to save Natthanan and her 3-year son who were burned alive in the building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Meanwhile in the southern province of Trang, a huge fire was reported at the province's first and largest rubber glove production factory.
