Bangkok Film Festival to be held January 20th-22nd

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, in cooperation with the Office of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Nation Group, will hold the Bangkok Film Festival 2023 between January 20th and 22nd at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

The event will also feature a short documentary film competition, under the title “Connecting Bangkok 2030”, panel discussions, special workshops on film editing and shooting techniques, run by film directors and movie stars, concerts and sales of goods produced by communities in Bangkok’s 50 districts.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Sanon Wangsrangboon told a news conference yesterday (Friday) that the festival is part of the administration’s policy to hold a festivals every month throughout the next year.

He cited the open-air film festival held in July this year, which grabbed the interest of many people in Bangkok and helped promote the open-air film business.

The film festival is not just about entertainment and making people happy, said Sanon, adding that it is also about promoting the film production industry. “Sometimes we travel overseas because we were influenced by movies about the countries we were about to visit,” said the deputy governor, adding that he hopes the film festival will attract more tourists to Bangkok.

Sanon said that students and members of the public, up to 28-years-old, can submit their short documentary films for entry in the “Connecting Bangkok 2030” competition.
