Cabinet Approves Long-Weekend Holidays to Stimulate the Economy

The Cabinet, during its meeting on 22 September 2020, approved long-weekend holidays in November and December on a special case to help stimulate the economy.

The decision was made following a proposal by Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, who had invited representatives of the public and private sectors for discussions on the issue.

The representatives of the public and private sectors agreed with the proposal, as it would promote domestic tourism and encourage people to spend, especially during this time when Thailand is facing a decline in international tourist arrivals.

In November, Thursday the 19th and Friday the 20th, will be declared special public holidays. As 21 November is Saturday and 22 November is Sunday, the long-weekend comprises altogether four days, from 19 to 22 November.

In December, Monday the 7th, was originally planned to be a holiday in lieu of the 5th (National Father’s Day, which falls on Saturday). It will be deferred to Friday the 11th, instead. 10 December is Constitution Day, which is a public holiday.

This long weekend consists of four days, from 10 December to 13 December.
