The people’s sector in the upper northeastern region of Thailand has joined the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) in carrying out the Corruption Risk Mapping project in anti-corruption efforts.

The NACC, through the Bureau of Promotion and Integration of Participation against Corruption, recently organized a focus group workshop via a Zoom meeting in 12 provinces in the Upper Northeast, in order to gather information on area-based corruption risks.

The 12 provinces include Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Phanom, Bueng Kan, Maha Sarakham, Mukdahan, Roi Et, Loei, Sakon Nakhon, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, and Udon Thani.

Information gained from the workshop will be used to set policies and planning in the prevention and suppression of corruption. The Corruption Risk Mapping project engages the general public in finding risk areas for corruption, as well as monitoring and reporting corruption across the country. The mapping covers various corruption issues in different areas.

Joining the seminar were more than 80 persons, comprising NACC executives and personnel and members of the "STRONG” Club, a mechanism to promote public participation through "sufficient minds” against corruption.

They worked together in analyzing possibilities and chances of corruption in various projects and seeking ways to ease the problems more effectively in the Upper Northeast. These projects involve, for example, the tackling of floods and drought, the construction and repairing of public facilities, road development, and the protection of public resources from encroachment.
