CSD to take over probe of Silpakorn student’s murder in Petchaburi

The national deputy police chief Pol Gen Srivara Rangsipromnakul has ordered the murder case of a Silpakorn University student transferred from Petchaburi police to Bangkok-based Crime Suppression Division as requested by family and lawyer of the victim.

Pol Gen Srivara said it would take some time for the CSD police to look into the case in which Mr Thirapong Thitatharn, a senior at Silpakorn University's Phetchaburi campus, was beaten up and had his skull stabbed with a screw driver, by a gang of 18 assailants, several of whom are children of police and local politicians in Petchaburi province.

The victim's lawyer, Mr Songkarn Atchariyasap, said that the victim's family asked for the transfer of the case to the CSD's jurisdiction because they doubted the Petchaburi police would treat the case fairly because some of the suspects are sons of police officers and local politicians.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the CSD police would issue summonses for three suspects to be questioned.
