Expanding the STRONG Model to Prevent and Suppress Corruption

Almost 100 personnel from 19 local administrative organizations have attended a workshop, aimed at encouraging public participation in anti-corruption campaigns under the "STRONG” model.

The workshop was organized recently via a Zoom webinar by the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), which has been using the STRONG model – sufficient, transparent, realize, onward, knowledge, and generosity – to develop "sufficient minds” against corruption in local administrative organizations.

In this model, the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, has been adopted to curb corruption. This philosophy teaches people to live modestly and not to seek anything excessively through corrupt practices, cheating, or exploitation.

The STRONG project began a few years ago, following a decision made by the National Anti-Corruption Commission on 28 September 2017. In the initial stage, the project was launched in 27 provinces, and in 2019, it was expanded to cover all 77 provinces.

In implementing this project, the NACC has encouraged the establishment of STRONG Clubs in communities nationwide to mobilize efforts to prevent and suppress corruption on a sustainable basis. Workshops have also been organized to cultivate an anti-corruption culture among various groups of people, while young leaders, or coaches, have been trained to help expand STRONG networks nationwide.

The STRONG project is in line with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, Phase Three (2017-2021), with a "Zero Tolerance and Clean Thailand” vision. In this strategy, the Sufficiency Economy principles will be developed as a mechanism to combat corruption and enhance public participation in anti-corruption efforts.
