The Department of Education (DepEd) recently held a graduation ceremony for the 97 Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) trainees at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Complex, Meralco Avenue, Pasig City.
With the theme, "Fuel up the Youth's Dream #Achieve," Dr.Ponciano Menguito, Director of the Bureau of Learner Support Services (BLSS), reminded the SPES graduates to follow their dreams, without compromising their values in life.
"May you continuously strive to pursue your dreams and know that dreams are more powerful than any challenges and always aim to be the best in your practice, not just to gain something for your own but ultimately to become a better person for others, because at the end of the day, the greatest value of a person will be measured not by the titles or achievements you have accumulated, but by the value of service that you have given to others," said Dr. Menguito.
One of the objectives of the SPES program is to develop the intellectual capacity and to harness student trainee's potential in the world of work.
One of the graduates, and third time SPES trainee, Aljay Lorenzo shared some of the things he has learned at the department, "Dalawa po sa natutunan ko dito ay ang pagiging propesyonal at sa personal na buhay. Sa pagiging propesyonal po nakatulong po ang SPES na mahubog at mahasa po ang aking kakayahan na kinakailangan po para sa aking kinabukasan. Sa personal naman po, nadiskubre ko na kaya ko palang ibigay ang best ko na gawin ang isang bagay at ma-overcome ko ang aking mga limitations," he said.
The SPES program aims to help poor but deserving students and out-of-school youth (OSY) pursue their education by providing income or augment their income through encouraging their employment during summer and Christmas vacations.
