Five Lat Phrao police officers removed after illegal casino raid

Five police officers of Lat Phrao police station from the superintendent down to the inspector were abruptly transferred to inactive posts in the operations centre of the 4th division of Metropolitan Police Bureau following a raid of an illegal casino in Lat Phrao area on Tuesday night in which 101 gamblers, including over a dozen of foreigners, were rounded up.

Pol Maj-Gen Nanthachart Supamongkol, commander of the MPB's 4th division, who ordered the transfer said that the five officers who were in charge of vice suppression found to be negligent of their duty for allowing an illegal gambling den to operate in their area of responsibility.

A special task force of the army carried out the raid of the illegal casino located in Lat Phrao Soi 119 after several complaints from residents in the neighbourhood with the police. Unfortunately, the complaints went unheeded and, therefore, the complainants took the case to the army.

It was reported that the casino tightly guarded like a fortress with CCTC system monitoring movements of people getting in and out of the premise and locked steel gates with a parking lot for customers.

The premise was surrounded by several shops and a huge boxing camp.
