Bangkok: “Green List Plus,” a campaign aimed at reducing dust and PM2.5 levels, is collaborating with government and private sectors to encourage Thais to inspect their vehicles as part of efforts to combat toxic dust.
According to Thai News Agency, the government is advancing the “Green List Plus” project with a focus on public-private partnerships to tackle dust emissions from the transport and automotive sectors. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has tasked Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, with spearheading this initiative, making the reduction of PM2.5 a national priority.
The project was officially launched at a press conference held at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment by Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Bangkok Governor Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Pollution Control Department Director-General Mr. Surin Worakithamrong, and Ms. Yupin Boonsirichan, President of the Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). It involves a collaboration between government agencies such as the Ministry of Energy and the Department of Land Transport, and private sector partners. The campaign promotes vehicle inspections under the slogan “A Quick Vehicle Inspection Reduces Dust Pollution.”
The Green List Plus initiative involves nine car manufacturers, including Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Toyota, along with five petroleum service centers like PTT and Shell, and B-Quik service centers. Collectively, these entities offer free inspections at over 1,745 locations nationwide, checking more than 55 vehicle components. Participants also benefit from discounts on engine oil, parts, and labor. Additionally, registrants with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration receive perks such as free parking and BTS Skytrain tickets.
Ms. Lalida Periswiwattana, Deputy Government Spokesperson, emphasized that the program demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the PM2.5 issue through extensive cooperation across various sectors. This initiative aims to foster a sustainable environment with cleaner air and improved quality of life for all citizens in Thailand.
