Heavy rain forecast for six of Thailand’s southern provinces from Friday

Heavy to very heavy rainfall, as well as flash flooding at the bases of mountains, are forecast for six southern provinces from tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday.

The Meteorological Department said today that Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat are expected to be lashed with heavy rain for three days from tomorrow, while Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla will face similar weather conditions during the weekend, due to the strong low pressure cell approaching the Vietnamese peninsula in conjunction with the intensifying north-eastern monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region.

Sailors and fishermen are warned to exercise extreme caution when venturing out to sea during the period and to avoid stormy areas due to strong winds and high waves.
