Heavy rain forecast over much of Thailand tomorrow and Tuesday

Thailand’s northern and central regions and the eastern coast of the southern region may face very heavy rain tomorrow and Tuesday, as a direct consequence of a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, according to the Meteorological Department.

The strong low pressure cell in the middle has intensified and developed into a cyclone, with wind speeds at its centre estimated at 30kph, said the department at 5pm today (Sunday).

The cyclone is moving north-north west at about 15kph and is expected to make landfall in Myanmar on Monday or Tuesday.

This will strengthen the southerly and south-easterly wind, which is blowing over the northern, central, eastern and southern regions of Thailand, resulting in more rain, with isolated heavy rain in the northern and central regions and along the eastern coast of the southern region, said the Weatherman.

Fishermen navigating the Andaman Sea and the Gulf are advised to exercise caution, due to rough seas with waves of up to two metres high, and to avoid the stormy areas.

Small boats in the Andaman should remain ashore on Monday and Tuesday.
