Help sought after over 150 inmates in Kantharalak prison fallen sick and two have died

The Corrections Department has asked the Public Health Ministry to send medical team to investigate a mysterious illness which has infected more than 150 inmates in the Kantharalak prison with two fatalities so far.

The department chief, Pol Col Narat Sawettanan, said he was informed by the prison warden that a total of 155 inmates had fallen sick with headache, dizziness, vomiting and muscle pains, but without high fever and two of them have died.

He said he would like the medical team to examine the food and take food samples, blood and urine samples of the infected inmates for laboratorial tests to find out the cause of the illness.

Moreover, he said that he would prefer a mobile hospital to be set up inside the prison to treat the infected inmates and to control the illness from spreading out of control.
