— SANS Institute to Offer Cybersecurity Training in Singapore and Canberra in 2015
SINGAPORE, Jan. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Cyber criminals leave no stone unturned when it comes to trying to penetrate an organization’s networks, systems and customer data, so the unsung heroes that are on the front-line defend those critical assets shouldn’t either.
The SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, is coming to the South Pacific with its signature security training and world-class instructors. SANS will offer its top cybersecurity courses – including for the first time its new and popular course on Continuous Monitoring and Security Operations – in Singapore from 9 – 21 March, 2015 and in Canberra, Australia from 29 June – 11 July, 2015.
SANS offers hands-on, immersion-style security training taught by top industry practitioners. These two action packed and informative events will feature an array of SANS award-winning courses in penetration testing, incident handling, and forensics specifically designed for cyber security professionals who want to sharpen their skills and learn cutting-edge defence tactics. For more information, or to register for SANS Singapore, please visit: http://www.sans.org/u/yj and for SANS Cyber Defence Canberra, please visit: http://www.sans.org/u/zB.
Both events will feature the new and popular SANS course, SEC511: Continuous Monitoring and Security Operations. The course focuses on building a defensible security architecture and implementing a proactive approach to early detection and monitoring. It provides cybersecurity professionals with specific skills to understand new attack capabilities and develop new and effective security solutions.
"Many organizations are compliance-based, not tactical. SEC511 gives your administrators a chance to win and defeat the adversary," explained leading security expert Seth Misenar, who pioneered the course along with SANS colleague Eric Conrad. The architecture, diagnostic, mitigation, and monitoring skills taught in SEC511 are designed to transition students from the traditional reactive approach to an aggressive posture that takes on potential security breaches before they’re hatched.
"This is a course whose time has come," says Dr. Eric Cole, SANS Cyber Defense Curriculum, pointing to data from Kaspersky Lab reporting that the number of corporate cyber-attacks more than doubled in 2014. (1) Through timely detection and continuous monitoring of networks and systems, more organizations are successfully thwarting these attacks. But organizations wanting to improve their security must be able to identify critical assets, map those assets against likely threats, and determine their most significant security vulnerabilities.
"SEC511 teaches you how to do that," Dr. Cole said.
