Laem Bali Hai in Pattaya gets a facelift

Pattaya City Administration will make Laem Bali Hai a new tourist landmark of Pattaya after having reclaimed the area from boat rental operators and street hawkers.

The New Year countdown last night was the first public event held at the site after the renovation works completed earlier this month.

Pattaya City Mayor Pol Maj Gen Anan Charoenchasri presided over the New Year countdown celebration at Laem Bali Hai in Pattaya South.

He said the countdown at the Laem Bali Hai was made possible after Pattaya City authorities successfully reclaimed the area under the National Council for Peace and Order’s policy to regulate public areas occupied by private operators or street hawkers for years.

The mayor said Laem Bali Hai had long been occupied by speed boat rental operators with several hundreds boat anchored in the sea. Tourists also complained that they were always disturbed by hawkers at the site.

The cape was re-landacaped with a budget of over 90 million baht to make it a new recreational area for the people visiting Pattaya, Pol Maj Gen Anan said.

He added that from now city officials and tourist police would be deployed at this new tourist landmark to keep peace and oder, and to ensure it would be used for recreational purposes by all the people, as well as a place to hold official events and celebrations.
