Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport is set to introduce a daily lump-sum ticket for the Red and Purple Lines, effective from December 1, 2025. The initiative, unveiled by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, aims to ease the financial burden on the public by offering unlimited daily travel at fixed rates.
According to Thai News Agency, the new daily pass proposal, approved by the Committee to Drive Policy on Electric Train Fares, aligns with government policies to reduce living costs. It will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval and will be available for use until November 30, 2026. The ticket offers unlimited travel within one day at a cost of 40 baht for the general public, 30 baht for students, and half price for seniors. Disabled individuals and children will travel free, while State Welfare Cardholders can utilize their monthly card limit of 750 baht.
Mr. Pipat highlighted that the card will be compatible with the EMV Contactless/MRT EMV/Mangmoom EMV systems, facilitating smooth transitions between the two lines. The initiative is expected to help frequent travelers manage expenses, promote public rail usage, reduce reliance on private vehicles, decrease pollution, and alleviate traffic congestion in urban areas.
The scheme extends the government’s successful “20 baht flat rate” policy, which has been in place for over two years. The new subsidies target specific groups to support citizens and encourage sustainable use of public transportation.
