The Ministry of Public Health has appointed a fact-finding committee to investigate a 15-year-old boy who succumbed to death from stomachache while awaiting his turn to receive treatment at a state hospital in Phetchaburi province.
The ministry's deputy permanent secretary and spokesman Dr Kiattiphum Wongrajit said the ministry ordered the investigation after receiving a formal report from Phrachomklao Hospital in Phetburi province on the death of the boy from acute stomachache.
He said the investigation would find out whether the treatment was conducted to official standard, or have any other cause.
He assured the boy's family that they would be remedied under Article 41 of the National Health Security Act B.E. 2545.
Meanwhile the hospital director Dr Sathit Ratanasrithong dismissed allegation of negligence by hospital staff that caused death, saying the patient was not abandoned but was in the process of analysing the symptoms of sickness as he had undergone CT scan.
This might be misunderstood by relatives that the boy was left unattended, he said.
He said fragile blood vessel bursting in the chest caused the boy to die instantly.
