PM concerned about school bus accident

Prime Miniser Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed regrets to the families of people who were killed and injured in an accident involving a bus taking students on a study tour and a pick-up truck in Nakhon Ratchasima's Dan Khun Thot district on Wednesday (Nov 15).

The bus was on the way back to Chaiyaphum after taking a group of teachers and students of Ban Nong Saeng School in Phu Khieo district for a study tour to visit the royal cremation in Bangkok.

Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the secretary-general of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) and the governor of Nakhon Ratchasima have visited the injured.

Obec has provided 300,000 baht for the Zone 2 primary education office in Chaiyaphum to help the families of those affected by the accident.

A fund has been set up to provide assistance to accident victims. It has so far received more than 200,000 baht in donations.

Lt Gen Sansern said Gen Prayut is concerned about the people's travels, especially bus taking students on study tours which often have an accident, mostly from speeding.

The prime minister has instructed the Education Ministry to make sure that schools under its supervision take proper safety measures to control the drivers and the condition of the buses.

The family of Pinyada Lappinyo, the 9-year-old student who was killed in the accident, has organised a funeral for the girl at Ban Don Tao Lek in Tambon Ban Kaeng in Chaiyaphum's Phu Khieo district.
