Preparations for Local Elections in 2021

The Cabinet on 7 September 2021 acknowledged preparations for the organizing of elections of members of local councils, or local executives of local administrative organizations, as proposed by the Ministry of Interior.

The local elections involve 5,300 subdistrict (tambon) administrative organizations, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and Pattaya City.

The Cabinet was told that the Ministry of Interior and the Election Commission of Thailand are ready to hold the upcoming local elections. The Election Commission has already set guidelines for vote casting in the COVID-19 situation.

From 1 to 15 October 2021, it will announce the elections of members of local councils, or local executives of local administrative organizations. The election day is scheduled for the period between 28 November and 12 December 2021.

As for the local elections in Bangkok and Pattaya City, they will be announced in the next step.

Earlier, the elections of Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) members in 76 provinces were held on 20 December 2020, the first in six years.

Later, on 28 March 2021, the elections of mayors and members of municipal councils at all levels took place nationwide.
