Prime Minister Leads Campaign to Dismantle Online Criminal Networks

Bangkok: The Prime Minister has ordered the expedited eradication of online criminal networks as part of a proactive strategy under the “Thai Unity Against Scammers” operation. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the three principles of “Don’t Trust – Don’t Rush – Don’t Transfer” to protect against scammers. The operation also involved collaboration with global platforms to crack down on cryptocurrencies, leading to the arrest of former Cambodian Senator Ly Yong Phat and the seizure of additional assets.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, held a press conference at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters in Bangkok to announce the results of the “United Thailand Against Scammers” campaign. The event, attended by key officials, highlighted efforts to suppress technology crimes. The Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson, Siripong Angkasakulkiat, revealed that the Prime Minister visited the Anti-Scam War Room and provided financial assistance to online fraud victims. Authorities, in collaboration with Binance, successfully seized cryptocurrency from a foreign hacking group, recovering over 14 million baht for victims. Additionally, a significant crackdown on the “Lee Yong Phat” transnational cybercrime network resulted in raids on 36 locations and the seizure of assets totaling over 400 million baht.

The Prime Minister delivered a policy address during the event, reiterating his commitment to eradicating scammers from Thai society. He highlighted the widespread impact of cybercrime on citizens, noting that the threat undermines public confidence in the economy and government. As part of the national agenda, the government has established a “Technology Crime Prevention and Suppression Committee” and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with 15 key agencies to close financial loopholes. The Royal Thai Police’s performance in seizing assets and closing money mule accounts demonstrates significant progress.

Addressing public concerns, the Prime Minister assured that the government is actively addressing potential involvement of “state officials” in criminal networks. He urged anyone with information to report it through proper channels, promising full protection for whistleblowers. Emphasizing public education, the Prime Minister urged adherence to the principles of “Don’t believe – Don’t rush – Don’t transfer” to combat scams effectively.

Finally, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Royal Thai Police, government agencies, the private sector, and media outlets for their efforts in protecting the public and raising awareness about digital scams. The collaboration with Binance and the successful dismantling of the “Li Yong Phat” network marks another achievement in the ongoing fight against technology crime.
