Reinforced Steel Plates Installed to Prevent Flooding at Chaiwatthanaram Temple

Bangkok: Officials have installed steel plates approximately 1 meter high to reinforce the bunker line to prevent flooding at Chaiwatthanaram Temple in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The water level in the Chao Phraya River in front of the ancient site of Wat Chaiwatthanaram has risen 10 centimeters since November 9th.

According to Thai News Agency, officials have reinforced the height of prefabricated flood protection bunkers, now standing at 1.90 meters high, along the Chao Phraya River for a total distance of 165 meters. Additional measures include the placement of canvas sheets and sandbags, as well as the installation of automatic water pumps that activate immediately when water leaks into the bunkers beyond a specified amount.

The latest reports indicate that the water level is approximately 30 centimeters away from overflowing the flood protection bunkers. These bunkers have previously been effective against higher flood levels and are deemed strong and stable. Despite the rising water levels, many Thai and foreign tourists continue to visit the temple, as key roads and routes remain unaffected by floods. However, nearby communities have been dealing with flooding for at least three months.
