Relief Measures for People and Businesses Affected by Current Wave of COVID-19

The Cabinet, during its meeting on 5 May 2021, approved a package of relief measures to help people and businesses affected by the current wave of COVID-19 infection, which began in April.

In these measures, two schemes will be extended to reduce the cost of living for the people. They include the cash handout “Rao Chana (We Win)” scheme, covering 32.9 million people, and the “Mo 33 Rao Rak Kan (We Love Each Other)” scheme, covering 9.27 million insured persons, under Section 33 of the Social Security Act.

Each person registered for both urgent schemes will receive 1,000 baht each week for two weeks. The handout can be spent before the end of June 2021.

Among other schemes to be carried out in the next step include the third phase of the Khon La Khrueng co-payment scheme, covering 31 million people and the relief scheme for holders of state welfare cards.

The deadline of the third phase of the “We Travel Together (Rao Thiao Duai Kan)” scheme and a package tour stimulus program “Tour Thiao Thai” will be postponed.

Moreover, water and electricity bill discounts will be given to households and small enterprises from May to June.

The Cabinet also approved a budget of 20 billion baht for the Government Savings Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives to extend soft loans to small entrepreneurs, traders, self-employed persons, and the general public in order to ease their hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
