Respected political scientist Prof Likhit Dhiravegin died of cancer

A famous and respected political scientist, Prof Likhit Dhiravegin, died last night of cancer at Phramongkutklao Hospital. He was 75 years old.

Prof Likhit was admitted to the hospital last month.

A former vice rector of Thammasat University in 1988 and a fellow of the Royal Institute in 2004, he entered politics in 2001 by joining the New Aspiration Party (NAP) of former prime minister Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh.

He was twice elected a party-list MP of the NAP, and served as deputy interior minister of the Chavalit government in 1997.

He also served as advisor to the prime minister and ministers of several previous governments.

He was awarded outstanding political scientist by the National Research Council of Thailand in 1988.

A bathing rite will be held today at 5 pm at Wat That Thong in Bangkok.
