School bus crash kills one student, injures 26 others on Highway 41 in Surat Thani

A chartered school bus from Hat Yai to Hua Hin skidded and flipped over on Highway 41 in Surat Thani early this morning, killing one girl student and injuring 26 others.

The bus was ferrying 46 secondary students of Hat Yai Withaya school in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province to Prachhap Khiri Khan's Hua Hin district on a leisure trip.

According to Khao Niphon police in Surat Thani, the accident happened at 6.20am today on Highway 41 near Pathomporn-Phatthalung intersection in Surat Thani province.

Initially report 27 students were injured after the bus skidded off the highway and flipped over with its side on side of the highway. None of them were critically hurt.

All were immediately admitted to Yupharat Wiangsra hospital.

But latest report said of the 27 injured students, two were later rushed to Surat Thani hospital for serious injuries.

One of them, a 17-year-student died later at hospital.

Primary questions of the bus driver revealed that the bus skidded and hit the roadside railing before flipping over. It was raining during the accident.

The driver was detained for reckless driving.
