The Cabinet has approved a ministerial regulation extending the service life of taxis from nine to 12 years, as proposed by the Ministry of Transport.
The decision, made on 15 September 2020, is intended to reduce the financial burden for taxi drivers, who have been affected by economic difficulties and the COVID-19 situation.
It will enable them to use their taxis for a longer period of time, under the condition that their taxis must be checked and pass the safety standards, and pollution emissions from the taxis must not exceed the stipulated level.
Taxi drivers will also be allowed to use mobile phones and smart phones as GPS tracking devices. This will help reduce their expenses.
