Bangkok: Suradej Yasawat, the deputy leader of the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), has called on the government to cease all discussions with Cambodia, citing recurring border tensions and labeling Cambodia as untrustworthy. He strongly advocated for the government to expose Cambodia’s actions to the international community, including the United Nations, rather than focusing solely on nations like America or Malaysia. Suradej expressed confidence in the Prime Minister’s decision to delegate military decisions, emphasizing that any potential conflict should be managed by the army.
According to Thai News Agency, Suradej addressed a recent incident involving Thai soldiers who lost a limb due to a landmine while patrolling the Thai-Cambodian border. He criticized Cambodia’s sincerity in negotiations, recalling his past recommendations to cancel all discussions, including the JBC, GBC, and RBC, during the previous administration. Suradej emphasized the need for a clear demarcation of boundaries using historical markers and asserted that Cambodia should first demonstrate sincerity by withdrawing heavy weapons and troops.
He further proposed the permanent closure of border checkpoints due to the deteriorating relations between the two countries. Suradej suggested that Thai traders adapt by seeking alternative markets. He also demanded that Cambodia compensate for damages incurred during past conflicts, highlighting the need for reparations for hospital repairs and civilian casualties.
Suradej condemned Cambodia’s leadership, particularly Hun Sen and Hun Manet, and reiterated his stance that Thailand should cease all negotiations and cancel existing agreements, such as MOUs 43 and 44, which he deemed ineffective. He urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the international community about Cambodia’s actions, asserting that Cambodia has been the instigator of ongoing conflicts. If Cambodia were to invade again, Suradej insisted that Thailand must respond with necessary force.
Praising Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s decision to entrust military decision-making, Suradej noted that the army possesses the strategic plan, experience, and readiness to handle the situation. The government, he stated, should act as a supportive mentor while allowing the military to determine the appropriate course of action to address any further Cambodian incursions.
