Thai and foreign tourists told to splash water and dress appropriately as police will enforce law strictly

The Royal Thai Police warned both Thai and foreign tourists to celebrate the Songkran festival to abide by the law strictly or else they will face either fine or imprisonment if they are caught to play, splash water and dress inappropriately.

The police said they will enforce the 4 Por measures and violaters will be dealt with by police.

The warning was issued by Roya Thai Police deputy commissioner Pol Gen Suwira Songmetta after he personally visited Khao Sarn road to see by himself the celebration of the water splashing festival which started yesterday with both Thais and foreign tourists flocking as one of the popular places to enjoy the water festival.

Pol Gen Suwira personally spoke with foreign tourists asking for their cooperation to celebrate Songkran in a safe and conscientious manner.

He told them that the Royal Thai Police will be strictly enforcing a 4 Por policy which involves 1. No Powder Paste 2. No Nudity 3. No High Power Water Pistols and 4. No Alcohol.

He said violators of the strict dress code could be fined up to 5,000 Baht while persons caught for molesting, sexual assault or obscenity will be fined up to 200,000 baht and jailed for up to 10 years.

He also revealed that special checkpoints have been setup all along Khao Sarn road to oversee security and ensure everyone comply with the official water splashing period between 12.00 noon up to 9.00 pm.

The road will be closed to traffic from noon until 9.00pm for people time joy water splashing.
