I’ve learned from the newspaper today that during the second quarter of this year, the Philippines achieved the growth of 5.6 percent. As a result, the Philippines is praised by the international community as the new ‘rising star’ of the region. I am confident that the vision laid by President Aquino will serve as an important foundation in guiding the Philippines towards greater prosperity in the future, he added.

Prayut said both he and President Aquino are pleased with the close and comprehensive relations.

We shared the view that as Thailand and the Philippines advance towards the seventh decade of our relations and the formation of the ASEAN community this year, we should work even more closely together to enhancing the ‘Partnership for Prosperity’ between Thailand and the Philippines and strengthening the ASEAN community at large, he said.

The Thai leader took the opportunity to express his sincere sympathy to the Filipino national who was injured in the bomb explosion in Bangkok last August 17.

The situation is now under the control of the authority and necessary measures have been taken to assist victims affected from the situation. The security officials are also investigating and searching for the perpetrators to bring them to justice, he assured.

The visiting Thai leader said the Philippines is Thailand’s 6th largest trading partner in ASEAN and 18th largest trading partner in the world.

In the past year, bilateral trade between the two countries grew at 10 percent. Both countries have the potential to expand bilateral trade and investment cooperation and support the ASEAN Community, he said.

Last Thursday night, Prayut met with Thai investors in the Philippines and they expressed confidence in the potential of the Philippines economy and interest in expanding investment in the Philippines.

I extended them my support. In this regard, I also seek the support from President Aquino in this matter, Prayut said.

I appreciate the Government of the Philippines for the confidence in the importing of the agriculture products from Thailand, whether they be rice or cooked chicken. I affirmed on the importance that the Royal Thai Government attaches to the assurance of quality control of export products from Thailand, he added.

Prayut also invited the Filipino investors to expand their investment in Thailand.

With the increasing number of overseas Filipino workers in Thailand, Prayut proposed to President Aquino for both countries to bilateral consular cooperation to assist and protect overseas workers of Thailand and the Philippines in various situations.
