BANGKOK, Thailand July 10 (NNN-Bernama)The operation to rescue the final four “Wild Boars” and their 25-year-old coach still trapped inside the flooded Tham Luang cave complex in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand, was resumed at about 10am (local time) today.
Former Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Ossothanakorn who announced the resumptions of the operation said they hoped to bring out all five still trapped inside the cave, along with a Royal Thai Navy SEAL’s doctor and its three divers.
We hope all nine of them will come out together today, he told the media in Chiang Rai here, adding that the doctor and three divers had been stationed with the boys to look after them since they were found inside the cave.
The former governor, who is heading the rescue operation, said 19 divers had already went inside the cave in their final mission to rescue the trapped boys and their coach.
Narongsak also expressed hope that today’s operation would yield the desired results faster compared to the missions conducted yesterday and on Sunday.
On the first day (Sunday), the operations took us about 11 hours and yesterday, nine hours. So, we hope to make it faster today, he said.
Driven by worry of incoming monsoon season which will cause heavy rain and further flood the cave, the rescue team began the risky operations to bring out all the boys and their coach, aged between 11 and 25 and had so far managed to bring out eight boys from the Mu Pa (Wild Boar) Football Academy, who have been trapped inside the cave since July 23.
When asked about a Mini-Sub developed by American space entrepreneur Elon Musk meant for the rescue mission, Narongsak said the device would not be used in the operation.
The equipment he gave us is not practical for our mission. It is technologically complex and too advanced, but we cannot bring it into the cave for this mission, said the former governor who will assume a new post in nearby Phayao province after this.
Musk, who is also Tesla’s chief executive officer, arrived in Chiang Rai last night with the Mini-Sub, hoping to use the modern device in the rescue operation.–NNN-BERNAMA
