THAILAND READY TO HOST TRUMP-KIM JONG UN SUMMIT IF CHOSEN AS HOST

BANGKOK, Thailand Thailand is ready to host a historic summit between U.S President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un if Bangkok is chosen as the venue.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said, Bangkok would be ready if picked as the host.

"For Thailand we are ready for everything. Our country is ready to welcome (both leaders), as we are a good host," he told the media yesterday on speculations that Bangkok could be hosting direct talks between leaders of the two countries.

Despite being one of the United States' closest ally in the region, Bangkok maintained diplomatic relations with Pyongyang.

President Trump has said his talks with Jong Un, the first for a sitting U.S president and a North Korean leader, could take place in late May or June.

The summit would centre on the nuclear threat posed by Pyongyang.

Meanwhile, the Thai Prime Minister was also asked whether the country would be joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) which was signed by 11 countries including Malaysia and Singapore a few months ago.

According to Prayut, Thailand was still considering the advantages and disadvantages of joining the trade pact.

The government has established a working committee to evaluate all available options.
