Thousands Gather in Sanam Luang to Honor the Queen Mother’s Royal Urn

Bangkok: People flocked to pay their respects to the royal corpse. People from all over traveled to Sanam Luang to wait to pay their respects to the royal urn of Her Majesty the Queen Mother for the first time.

According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at Sanam Luang was bustling as waiting tents filled with a large number of people eager to enter. Attendees had to pass through a screening point and be sorted into a tunnel under the road in front of the Royal Plaza. They then entered through the Mani Noppharat Gate and followed the designated route by the Bureau of the Royal Household to reach Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall to pay their respects to the royal urn. The first group of 30 people was gradually led to the covered gallery at Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram before the official opening of the urn at 8:00 a.m.

After paying their respects, people exited through Thewaphirom Gate on Maharat Road, opposite Tha Ratchaworadit Pier. The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) had prepared approximately four shuttle buses at each stop to transport people back to Sanam Luang, ensuring thorough access.

The Bureau of the Royal Household has requested the public to dress respectfully for mourning. Gentlemen are advised to refrain from wearing jeans, while ladies should wear skirts or sarongs covering the knees to maintain modesty and express appropriate mourning.
