Tour Bus Overturns on Doi Khun Tan, Injuring 38 Tourists

Lampang: A tour bus carrying foreign tourists overturned on Doi Khun Tan, injuring 38 passengers, one seriously. While rescue vehicles were transporting the injured to the hospital, a secondary accident involving a pickup truck resulted in injuries to both parties and three others.

According to Thai News Agency, the accident occurred on Doi Khun Tan, before reaching the Khun Tan Shrine in Wiang Tan Subdistrict, Hang Chat District, Lampang Province, amid continuous rain. A Chiang Mai-Bangkok tour bus overturned, blocking the road into Lampang Province. Officials had to close the inbound lane and open only one lane on the outbound lane. Rescue teams were deployed to assist the injured, who were 38 foreign tourists. Most suffered minor to moderate injuries, with one seriously injured. The accident occurred on a long, uphill road with dangerous curves, where accidents often occur when it rains.

However, while the rescue vehicle was transporting the injured to Hang Chat Hospital, a secondary accident occurred when the rescue vehicle had to drive against traffic and collided with a pickup truck that was driving up. This resulted in two rescue workers being injured and trapped inside the vehicle. The driver had a broken leg, and rescue teams had to use cutting equipment to free him. The pickup truck driver was also injured.

Following the incident, officials coordinated with a large crane to tow the tour bus out of the area and expedited cleaning of the road, which was heavily contaminated with oil, to prevent further accidents. The area took nearly five hours to clear, and traffic heading south to Lampang Province was finally reopened at 1:00 a.m.
