Two bus drivers fined 5,000 baht each for jumping a red light

Two city bus drivers were on Thursday each fined 5,000 baht by the Land Transport Department for jumping a red light at Kluay Nam Thai intersection on Tuesday.

The penalty was imposed by the land transport inspection division of the LTD after one of the two traffic violation incidents involving a No 71 mini bus was widely criticized by netizens in the social media.

An investigation was launched with inspectors checking the CCTV system at the road intersection and it was discovered that not just one bus driver, but two of No 71 bus route jumped the traffic light.

The two drivers, Man Arapan and Padet Panpong, were summoned to the department where they were informed of their traffic violations, given a lecture on driving safety for three hours and fined 5,000 baht each.

The two drivers told officials that they jumped the red light because the green light at the intersection lasts just five seconds and that they were held up at the spot for quite a long time.
