Two 14-year-old South Korean students from a China-based international school drowned after they were sucked into a whirlpool while swimming in the Moei River in Tha Song Yang district of Tak province yesterday.
They were identified as Cho Sejin and Choi Jihyun.
Their bodies were later found, recovered and sent for postmortem at Tha Song Yang hospital.
According to police investigation, 9 teachers and 21 students from the school have been visiting the Academy School in Tha Song Yang since March 25 under an exchange programme.
The students then went swimming along with other Karen children at Ban Nong Bua beach on the river.
But the two swam close to the whirlpool and were sucked into it and drowned.
