Wild Boar football team captain collapsed in his room in Leicester on Sunday

Wild Boar soccer team captain Duangphet “Dom” Promthep collapsed in his room in England on Sunday and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment, but he died on Tuesday.

According to the Thai Foreign Ministry, Duangphet was found unconscious in his room and was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit of a nearby hospital.

Duangphet was studying at Brooke House College Football Academy, a prestigious soccer school in Leicester, under the scholarship of Zico Foundation and Sports Education Foundation.

The ministry said that the hospital had advised that Duangphet’s family of his condition and they were advised tofly to the UK as soon as possible, but the footballer’s condition steadily deteriorated and he eventually died at 1.43 pm local time on Tuesday.

The Thai Embassy in London has been in close contact with the Zico Foundation, the Brooke House College Football Academy and the deceased’s family to make all necessary arrangements and to provide help, said the ministry, adding that the school has informed the parents of all the students at the school of Duangphet’s passing.

The ministry also expressed its condolences to the deceased footballer’s family.

The 12 footballers, including Duangphet and their coach, were trapped deep inside the flooded Tham Luang Khun Nam Nang Non in Chiang Rai for 17 days in 2018. Their plight resulted in an international search and rescue operation, watched by audiences around the world, when rescuers of many nationalities raced against rising water in the cave to save them.
