Nakhon Phanom: The Prime Minister will travel to the upper northeastern region this Monday.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister is set to lead the Cabinet to the upper northeastern region, encompassing the provinces of Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, and Mukdahan, ahead of the mobile Cabinet meeting scheduled in Nakhon Phanom on Tuesday. This visit aims to expedite the implementation of pivotal government policies, with the Prime Minister expressing confidence that the Cabinet’s in-person visit will effectively address regional challenges.

Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, disclosed that at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, April 29, in Nakhon Phanom Province, Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra envisages ministers from all ministries travelling to the region to inspect ongoing work and assess progress across various sectors in the Northeastern provinces on Sunday, April 27, and Monday, April 28, prior to the formal Cabinet meeting.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary includes visits to Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom provinces on Monday, April 28, 2025, to evaluate the work outcomes of numerous government agencies within the Upper Northeastern Region 2 group of provinces. The Prime Minister will preside over the 2nd off-site Cabinet meeting of 2025 on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Greater Mekong Subregion Conference Hall, Nakhon Phanom University.

The visit commences on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 8:45 a.m., with the Prime Minister departing from Don Mueang, Bangkok, to Kris Siwara Army Airport in Sakon Nakhon Province. The agenda includes a visit to Don Kaen Public Park to monitor the progress of the development plan and restoration of the Nong Han Lake area and water management.

Subsequently, the Prime Minister will proceed to the Wat That Prasit Handicraft Center in Nakhon Phanom Province to explore the ‘Na Wa Model’ aligned with the royal initiative ‘Sustainable Fashion: Sustainable Fashion.’ Additionally, a meeting to address the cross-border drug problem will be held at the Mekong Riverine Peacekeeping Unit. In the evening, the Prime Minister will pay homage to Phraya Sri Satta Nakarat and participate in lighting a land-based fire boat at Phanom Naga Square by the Mekong River.

Mr. Jirayu stated that on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Prime Minister will chair the 2nd off-site Cabinet meeting at the Mekong Subregion Conference Hall. The itinerary also includes a visit to the Nakhon Phanom Customs Checkpoint to evaluate the border trade situation, with the checkpoint featuring two permanent border crossings and four trade relaxation points.

The Prime Minister’s visit aims to assess development projects and resolve regional issues across international trade, tourism, and urban development, given the provinces’ strategic potential bordering Laos and offering routes to Vietnam. The Cabinet’s visit is expected to identify development opportunities and strategies to enhance competitiveness in tourism, trade, and investment, alongside addressing the drug problem to improve the quality of life in the region.
