Pathum Thani: A 31-year-old woman who recently gave birth to twins fell from the 18th floor of a hospital and died. The incident occurred at a well-known medical facility, leaving the community in shock and prompting the hospital to issue a statement expressing condolences to the family and pledging to review safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
According to Thai News Agency, the deceased woman, identified as Ms. Saisunee, had given birth to twins on January 22, 2025, and returned to the hospital on January 24 for their treatment in the thalassemia room on the 8th floor. CCTV footage revealed that she walked to a window by the elevator on the 8th floor, then proceeded alone to the 18th floor via the fire escape, where she jumped out of a window and fell to the balcony on the 2nd floor.
Officials from the Pathum Thani Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office have since taken custody of Ms. Saisunee’s two older children, aged 11 and 6, from their rented room. The deceased’s brother, Mr. Muangman, 34, reported to the Pathum Thani City Police Station and expressed his lack of awareness regarding his sister’s stress, as they had minimal communication. He has since taken responsibility for the children and plans to transport his sister’s body to their hometown in Phetchabun Province for religious rites.
A neighbor, Ms. Sukanlaya, aged 39, described Ms. Saisunee as a good-natured person who had been renting a room in the dormitory for about 5-6 months. Despite being pregnant, she managed her household well with her two children and worked as a security guard at a university before resigning to give birth.
The hospital has confirmed the incident and extended its condolences to the family, noting that Ms. Saisunee’s twins were born prematurely and were being treated in the infant ward. The hospital has committed to cooperating fully with authorities in the investigation and has already begun reviewing and enhancing its safety protocols to prevent future occurrences.
