4th Army Region Commander Meets Prime Minister to Discuss Southern Situation and MP Kamolsak’s Gunman Arrest

Bangkok: The commander of the 4th Army Region recently met with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to discuss the ongoing situation in the southern border region and the recent arrest of the gunman responsible for the shooting of MP Kamolsak Leewamoh. The meeting took place ahead of a National Security Council (NSC) session at Government House. The Prime Minister conveyed his relief over the developments and commended the commander for his morale and readiness to continue working on the matter.

According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant General Norathip Poynok, Commander of the 4th Army Region, provided an update on the situation in the three southern border provinces following several incidents. However, he noted that there was nothing specific to report at that time. The media sought updates on the investigation into the assassination attempt on Kamolsak Leewamoh, a member of the Prachachart Party from Narathiwat, after the arrest of the alleged perpetrators on April 22.

When questioned about how he reported the incident to the Prime Minister, Lt. Gen. Norathip declined to comment and avoided questions regarding the pressure on the local population. Despite persistent inquiries from reporters, he remained reticent, only nodding in acknowledgment when asked if he felt relieved by the apprehension of those responsible for the attack on the MP.

Lt. Gen. Norathip eventually expressed his good spirits and readiness to proceed with his duties by giving a thumbs-up before departing Government House. His brief interaction with the media concluded as he entered a vehicle and left the premises.
