Mukdahan: Police took the robber to reenact the gold shop robbery. He said it was his fault and asked for 5 baht. Police from Mukdahan City Police Station, together with the investigation unit from Yasothon City Police Station, surrounded the forest in Kut Khae Subdistrict, Mueang District, Mukdahan Province, arresting Mr. Yotthanan, aged 29, a suspect with an arrest warrant for attempted robbery on April 21st. He used a gun to threaten the owner of a gold shop on Wittaya Thamrong Road in the middle of Yasothon City, demanding ‘5 baht’, hoping to get 5 baht of gold. However, the shop owner shouted, ‘Put the gun down right now’ and gave him a 5 baht coin instead. At that time, Mr. Yotthanan, the suspect, saw that things were not going well because the shop owner’s niece was approaching him, so he slowly backed away and quickly ran out of the shop to ride a motorcycle and escape across the province to hide in Mukdahan Province, renting a room to wait to escape across the border to a neighboring country, but was
arrested before he could do so.
According to Thai News Agency, the suspect, Mr. Yotthana, confessed that he intended to rob the gold in order to get money to pay off his debts, and the creditors kept demanding the money, which stressed him out. On the day of the incident, he rode his motorcycle out of the house to find something to eat, and then he had a sudden thought to break in and rob the gold. As for the homemade 20-gauge shotgun, he always carries it with him, but he usually does not load it because he is afraid that it might go off and hit someone else. When he arrived at the shop where the incident occurred, he directly told the owner, ‘Give me 5 baht.’ The shop owner actually gave him 5 baht, but it was in 5-baht coins. At that time, he was angry and wondered why he gave him money. Then, when the shop owner shouted at him to put down the gun, he was so scared that he almost put it down. But when he thought about it, he quickly ran out of the shop.
Sukanya, the gold shop owner, said that when she saw the news about herself, she was confused as to why she was not afraid of being shot. However, she was angry that someone who worked hard to make a living would suddenly come to ask for 5 baht because she thought that he was a beggar, as there were homeless people who came to ask for money and food regularly. However, when she saw the gun coming out to threaten her, she became even more angry, so she shouted at the assailant. At first, she did not see the hand, so she was indifferent, just like she had told her, that he was asking for money. However, when she saw him show the gun, she became even more angry and was not afraid at all.
Police checked the history of Mr. Yotthana, the suspect, who had been arrested for drug and firearms-related cases. After taking him to reenact his confession, he was taken back to the police station to face further legal action.
