93 countries exempt from 60-day visa for entry to Thailand, effective 15 July 2024

Bangkok, The announcement of a visa-free stay of up to 60 days has come into effect for tourists and people who come to work or do short-term business from 93 countries around the world. Yesterday (July 15), the Royal Gazette website published an announcement from the Ministry of Interior, specifying the list of countries and territories where holders of passports or documents used in lieu of passports who temporarily enter the Kingdom for tourism, work, or short-term business are exempt from visa requirements and are allowed to stay in the Kingdom for no more than 60 days as a special case. The source of this announcement, Prime Minister Settha Thavisin, stated that it is partly to facilitate foreigners entering Thailand in order to stimulate tourism and the economy as a whole. For the 93 countries/territories that will receive visa-free privileges, there are 2 major groups: the first group is the 57 countries that previously received the privileges, such as the Commonwealth of Australia, Italy, Korea, Ja pan, the United States, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the second group is the group that receives new privileges, consisting of 36 countries, such as Bhutan, India, Taiwan, China, Laos, Macau, Russia, Cambodia. The announcement also emphasizes that if an alien wishes to stay in the Kingdom after the expiration of the period specified in this announcement, they must apply for an extension of no more than 30 days.
