Sadao: The Prime Ministers of Thailand and Malaysia jointly inaugurated the new Sadao border crossing, amidst a grand and joyful welcome from government officials and citizens of both countries. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, together with Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, presided over the opening ceremony of the new road connecting the Sadao Customs checkpoint and the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint. At the ceremony, both sides shook hands at the border to officially open the checkpoints. Following this, the Malaysian Prime Minister escorted Mr. Anutin and his delegation across to Malaysia to host a luncheon for the Thai delegation.
According to Thai News Agency, the new Sadao Customs House is located on Kanchanavanich Road, Samnak Kham Subdistrict, Sadao District, Songkhla Province, within the Songkhla Special Economic Zone. The project covers an area of 596 rai, 1 ngan, and 18 square wah. Construction began on May 31, 2016, with a budget of 1,532.07 million baht. The main building was completed on September 28, 2019, and comprises office buildings, a cargo inspection building, a passenger and vehicle terminal, and residential buildings.
In terms of facilities and technology, the airport has 11 vehicle inspection lanes on each side, 14 immigration lanes on each side, and a cargo terminal with 8 inspection lanes per arrival and departure for cargo trucks. It is equipped with modern inspection technology, including two Fast Scan X-ray systems and two cargo truck weighing systems.
The resolution of the National Security Council's Screening Committee meeting No. 3/2026 on July 2, 2026, concluded that opening the new Sadao permanent border crossing will help improve the efficiency of border management between Thailand and Malaysia, enhance the screening of individuals and goods, reduce smuggling, and support international trade and investment. Operating hours will be from 05:00 to 23:00 daily.
