Bangkok: "Abhisit" urges the government to quickly resolve the issue of "the masked figure hoarding oil." Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, a list MP and leader of the Democrat Party, recently addressed the media regarding the party's activities following its 80th anniversary. He outlined plans for year-long activities aimed at enhancing the party's operations and preparing for its 81st year, focusing on using technology to monitor government actions, scrutinize corruption, and foster new personnel development.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Abhisit commented on the current political landscape in Thailand, noting that the government is in the process of announcing its policies following the recent election. He acknowledged that while political figures remain stable, there are challenges ahead, particularly due to the crisis in the Middle East. He stressed that the government's commitment to resolving these issues is crucial for maintaining stability, cautioning against vested interests that could disrupt this process.
Mr. Abhisit also addressed the current lack of public confidence in the government, highlighted by a NIDA poll showing even external team members expressing doubts. He emphasized the need for the government to learn from past mistakes, particularly in communication and follow-up measures, to rebuild trust among the public.
He further discussed the opposition's role in addressing the oil hoarding issue. Mr. Abhisit stated that the opposition had raised concerns early on, despite initial government denial. He expressed confidence that the Democrat Party would continue to monitor the situation and possibly treat it as a special case. He highlighted the need for the government, business sector, and refineries to ease the public's burden due to high oil prices.
In response to concerns about accountability following the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Mr. Abhisit assured that the matter is being closely followed. He urged the government to deliver concrete results in alleviating the public's burden, particularly through measures targeting vulnerable groups. While the government has spoken about such measures, he noted that comprehensive implementation is still pending.
