Bangkok: Abhisit Vejjajiva advises the government to find a balance to quell the unrest in the South. Abhisit Vejjajiva, a Member of Parliament and leader of the Democrat Party, emphasized the need for a dual approach combining dialogue and strict law enforcement in response to ongoing unrest in the southern border provinces.

According to Thai News Agency, Abhisit commented on the government's proposed strategy following a resurgence of violence in the area, which has led to casualties among security personnel. He highlighted that warnings had been issued since an assassination attempt on MPs, suggesting efforts to normalize violence. He pointed out that while the government has set up a new negotiating team, it is crucial that the talks do not excuse or permit violence against security forces. Abhisit stressed the importance of decisive legal action and cautioned against using violence as the sole reason for engaging in dialogue. He also warned that pursuing dialogue without proper security measures would imply negligence.

Abhisit addressed concerns about the government's formation of a negotiating committee, questioning whether this action shifts the responsibility entirely onto the committee. He acknowledged the committee's efforts but noted that the opposing side might be attempting to send inappropriate signals. He called for clarity in both negotiations and the application of legal measures, underscoring the necessity of maintaining security and protecting security personnel while finding a balanced approach.
