Academics Advocate for Inclusive Economic Growth at IMF-World Bank 2026 Forum

Accra:Academics are urging the government to leverage the IMF-World Bank 2026 forum to distribute wealth more equitably among the Thai population.

According to Thai News Agency, Yutthaporn Isarachai, a lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, emphasized that the strength of an economy should not be measured solely by GDP figures. While GDP indicates overall growth, it does not reflect how income and opportunities are distributed. Thailand's hosting of the IMF-World Bank 2026 meeting presents a crucial opportunity for the government to highlight the country's potential on the global economic stage and benefit the Thai people. This includes enhancing investor confidence, connecting Thai entrepreneurs with international networks, and expanding opportunities for SMEs and local businesses.

Mr. Yutthaporn suggested that the government should adopt the concept of inclusive growth, which goes beyond GDP measurements to include job creation, income growth, and citizen participation in economic prosperity. The government can align the conference with community economics by accommodating shops and SMEs, improving transportation to economic zones, and encouraging spending with small-scale entrepreneurs. Collaboration and insights from the conference could aid the government in formulating long-term policies aimed at reducing inequality, boosting small business opportunities, strengthening social security, and distributing economic potential to local regions.

Hosting the event is not only a success in organization but also an opportunity for Thailand to demonstrate its vision and readiness, translating the global stage into tangible economic benefits. By consistently building on this foundation, the country's growth could be reflected in increased opportunities and income for its citizens, beyond mere GDP figures.
