Admin of “Godd Dam” Facebook Page Arrested for Alleged Bribery Rumors About Prime Minister

Bangkok:The administrator of the widely followed Facebook page "Godd Dam" has been arrested for allegedly spreading rumors about a 7 million baht bribe involving Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The arrest was carried out by cyber police, who have detained the administrator, Chairat Rekhawatana, for interrogation. Despite the arrest, Mr. Chairat maintains, "I am not the owner of the page."

According to Thai News Agency, the arrest followed the circulation of a post on the "Godd Dam" Facebook page that implicated the Prime Minister in a bribery scandal. The cyber police, after gathering necessary evidence, sought and obtained an arrest warrant from the court for Mr. Chairat, 26. The court approved the warrant, leading to his immediate apprehension.

Chairat was taken into custody on the 5th floor of Building B at the 80th Anniversary Royal Celebrations Government Complex. He was accompanied by a lawyer from the Human Rights Lawyers Center en route to meet investigators when police acted on the warrant. Despite media efforts to obtain comments from Mr. Chairat regarding his ownership of the page and the controversial post, he only stated, "I am not the owner of the page."

Lawyers from the Human Rights Lawyers Center explained to the press that Mr. Chairat presented himself voluntarily to the investigators and requested to undergo the investigation process before further statements, as the specific charges were unclear at that time.

The charges against Mr. Chairat include fraudulently introducing distorted or falsified data into a computer system, which could cause damage to others, the public, or national security, and forging official documents. These charges reflect the serious nature of the allegations surrounding the case.
