Bangkok: Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (ARIT) has confirmed that all air traffic control services adhere strictly to international safety standards, ensuring the safety of all flights.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surachai Nuphrom, Deputy Managing Director and Acting Managing Director of AeroThai, addressed a social media post by a passenger on Thai Airways flight TG029, which questioned the conduct of Air Traffic Controllers (ATC). AeroThai clarified that the ATC operations on that day were in accordance with all regulations and international aviation safety standards.
The internal investigation revealed that during the incident, another aircraft approaching the runway parallel to TG029 experienced technical problems, preventing it from landing. The ATC managed the situation by maintaining a standard distance between the aircraft before allowing TG029 to descend and land. However, upon reaching an altitude of 1000 feet, the landing was unstable, leading the pilot to request a go-around as per standard flight operations procedures, resulting in a flight delay. Coordination with the airline has been undertaken to clarify the situation and assure them of the continued prioritization of passenger safety in Thailand's aviation system.
Mr. Surachai further explained that landing permission requires a detailed joint assessment between the pilot and ATC to ensure safety. Key considerations include the readiness and safety of the runway, maintaining international standards for aircraft distance, assessing weather conditions, and ensuring the pilot's clear view of the runway. The pilot has the authority to abandon landing and perform a go-around if conditions are deemed unsafe. ATC will promptly provide instructions for re-landing when the flight is ready to return.
The statement concluded with appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (ATC) personnel, reaffirming their commitment to managing air traffic according to international standards with a primary focus on safety.
